ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Community Bulletin: Collective agreement ratified, classes to resume on April 17

The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Board of Governors ratified the new collective agreement with the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Faculty Association (ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú FA), Bargaining Unit 1 and Bargaining Unit 2, at a special meeting on Friday, April 14, 2023. The agreement was ratified earlier in the day by the members of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú FA’s two bargaining units, which represent faculty members, sessional instructors, librarians, clinical nursing instructors, and clinical veterinary professionals at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú.

Elijah Miller and Brinten Comeau named ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Athletes of the Year

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú’s Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the 2022–23 season at the annual ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Panther Celebration—Athletic Awards Gala on Thursday, March 30, recognizing outstanding student-athletes who have excelled in sport, the classroom, and the community. 

This year, the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Alumni Association’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award went to Brinten Comeau of the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Women’s Rugby team. The Male Athlete of the Year is Elijah Miller of the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Men’s Basketball team.

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú and CUPE 1870 ratify three-year agreement

The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú’s Board of Governors and members of Local 1870 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1870) have approved the three-year tentative agreement that was reached with the assistance of a third-party conciliator on March 14, 2023. CUPE 1870 represents approximately 345 support and administrative employees at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú.

PEI health system capacity study being commissioned to integrate ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú medical students

The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú and Health PEI are inviting consultants to submit proposals to assess and analyze PEI’s health system capacity to integrate medical learners from the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú’s Faculty of Medicine. The new Faculty, which was announced in October 2021, will be offering a joint doctor of medicine degree with partner Memorial University.

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú graduate student receives funding for breast cancer research

Miranda Steeves, a Master of Science student at the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú, is working on breast cancer research, with assistance from the (BHCRI). 

Steeves is a trainee in the Institute’s cancer research training program (CRTP), with $11,900 in funding provided by the ’s (CCS) J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI)—Excellence in Cancer Research Fund.

Premier and ministers receive update about ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Faculty of Medicine

Premier Dennis King, Health and Wellness Minister Ernie Hudson, and Education and Lifelong Learning Minister Natalie Jameson visited the construction site of the University’s new health education building and health and wellness clinic on February 3, accompanied by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú President and Vice-Chancellor Greg Keefe and other University officials.
