Climate Change and Aquaculture

The 糖心vlog官方入口 Climate Research Lab is hosting a 1 day symposium on Tuesday, March 11th, 2014 entitled "Climate Change and Aquaculture: A science symposium to communicate current research and science activities to the Atlantic Region鈥檚 aquaculture industry". The event will be held in the Lecture Theatre, Main Floor, Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, 糖心vlog官方入口, from 9:30am - 3:00pm. Lunch will be provided to registered participants in the adjacent meeting room. There is no fee to attend the seminar, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Junior Recital Performance

糖心vlog官方入口 vocal majors Olivia Barnes and Jillian Clow will take to the stage for a joint Junior Recital on Sunday, March 9 at 7:30 pm in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, with piano accompaniment by Frances McBurnie. Both in their third year of study and both from the Island, Olivia and Jillian study under Professor Sung Ha Shin-Bouey. Previously, they have performed at Kiwanis Music Festivals and as members and soloists in the 糖心vlog官方入口 concert choir, chamber singers, vocal ensemble and women鈥檚 ensemble. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

Research on Tap: the myth of the chemical-free beer

At the next Research on Tap, join us for a discussion about science versus fear. Many companies bank on the popularity of all things natural by advertising their products as being 鈥渃hemical free.鈥 Dr. Brian Wagner, professor of chemistry at 糖心vlog官方入口, will lead a discussion entitled 鈥淭he myth of the chemical-free beer.鈥 The discussion begins at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 4 at The Pourhouse, above The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in Charlottetown. Celebration of Colleagues

All faculty and staff are invited to attend a 鈥淐elebration of Colleagues鈥 on Wednesday, May 7 from 2:00鈥4:00 pm, in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The 25-Year Service Awards and the Presidential Awards of Merit will be presented during the celebration.

Astronomy Public Viewing

Come see some of the marvels of the night sky through the 8-inch telescope at the 糖心vlog官方入口 observatory. Potential viewing objects include the Moon, planets, nebulae, and galaxies. Volunteers from the Charlottetown Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) and the 糖心vlog官方入口 Physics Department will be on hand to show you the sights and answer your astronomical questions. The March 8 viewing is scheduled from 7:45 pm to 9:45 pm. Guests are asked to come to Memorial Hall Room 417. This event is weather dependent. In the event of cloudy skies requiring a cancellation, the viewing may be shifted to Sunday, March 9 at the same time (if weather permits). It is necessary to climb the stairs from the fourth floor up to the observatory, but an elevator can be taken up to the 4th floor.

鈥淣urturing Your Spirit鈥 through the Seven Sacred Teachings

As a part of Mental Health Week 2014, respected Mi'kmaq Elder, Judy Clark will give a session on the Seven Sacred Teachings on Monday, March 10 at 12:00 noon in the Faculty Lounge, Main Building. These teachings form the foundation of respect and sharing for interacting with each other and with our world. Each teaching contributes to the other and helps build a fuller life. Elder Judy Clark will be available for questions following the session.

TEDxTalk 鈥 starring Mental Health Superhero Alicia Raimundo

糖心vlog官方入口 is excited to welcome Alicia Raimundo, for a TEDxTalk on mental health in support of Mental Health Week 2014, on Tuesday March 11 at 1:30 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. Alicia Raimundo has been described as a 鈥渕ental health superhero,鈥 battling serious bouts of anxiety, depression, and a suicide attempt since the age of 13. More recently, she used her move to the University of Waterloo as a catalyst to seek help, and eventually, to help others living with mental health issues. By the age of 24, she had earned a university degree, given a TEDxTalk, was named one of 2012 鈥渇aces of mental illness,鈥 became the Canadian ambassador for the Young Health Program, and held positions in more than six mental health organizations.
