Human Resources developed a new online Employee and Spouse/Dependent Tuition Waiver fillable form. These forms can be found on the main page of My糖心vlog官方入口 under 糖心vlog官方入口 Forms as well as on the Human Resources portal under Professional Development. In order to have the tuition waiver reflect your account prior to the tuition deadline, please submit all Fall 2019 Tuition Waivers via the online form no later than August 26, 2019. Please be advised Human Resources will no longer accept printed waiver forms.

Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz, President and Vice-Chancellor, invites the friends and colleagues of Gary Bradshaw, who passed away suddenly last week, to an informal gathering on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 3鈥4 pm in the Faculty Lounge, to remember and reminisce.

Gary joined 糖心vlog官方入口 in 2002 as Vice-President Finance and Facilities, and, during his time, he successfully oversaw the planning, management, and development of several major capital expansion and renewal projects on campus. In 2011, to be closer to family, Gary moved back home to Corner Brook, NL where he served as associate vice-president, administration and finance at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University. He most recently had served as the associate vice-president at Memorial University鈥檚 Marine Institute.

We are pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for the 2019 Atlantic Universities' Teaching Showcase, which will be held at the 糖心vlog官方入口 on Saturday, October 19.  The theme of this year's showcase is "Critical Hope and Other Academic Virtues," and we are very fortunate to have three 3M National Teaching Fellows delivering the keynote address: Dr. Lisa Dickson (UNBC), Dr. Shannon Murray (糖心vlog官方入口), and Dr. Jessica Riddell (Bishop's University).

The AIRS (Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Singing) and Music Cognition Lab are celebrating 10- and 25-year anniversaries, respectively. Dr. Annabel Cohen and the summer students are hosting a free day-long workshop at the 糖心vlog官方入口 on July 19 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in Andrew Hall, Room 142.  The day will include presentations of research in the fields of music and psychology from across the Maritimes. There will also be musical performances. The keynote speaker, Dr. Jessica Strong, presents at 11:00 am. From academics to enthusiasts, all are welcome to attend.

The Faculty of Education invites the public to attend Zain Esseghaier's PhD proposal presentation, entitled: The Production of Language and Culture Through Talk in a French Language Minority School.

of Imagining Anne: The Island Scrapbooks of L.M. Montgomery will be launched on July 25, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm in the Robertson Library at the 糖心vlog官方入口. The book is compiled and edited by Dr. Elizabeth 鈥淏etsy鈥 Epperly, past-president of 糖心vlog官方入口 and founder of the L.M. Montgomery Institute (LMMI), who will speak about the book and sign copies. Montgomery treasures, from the LMMI and Robertson Library, will be on display. All are welcome.

At noon on August 2, Dr Jean Philippe Chaput of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute and University of Ottawa will be presenting on the importance of of a "whole day" approach to health promotion.  Dr Chaput will explore the role of sleep, screen time, physical activity and diet in promoting health and wellness.  The presentation will take place from noon-1pm on August 2 in Health Science Building 105.  To attend, please RSVP before July 19 by clicking .

Join us for another reading and discussion session on indigenizing and decolonizing the university, organized by the FDO and the IEAC faculty development group! This time we'll be reading an article by Eve Tuck and K. Wayne Yang, entitled "Decolonization is not a Metaphor" 鈥 found online at: . Since it's a fairly long piece, we're suggesting reading up to page 28 鈥 but of course, feel free to read the whole thing! We'll meet on Thursday, July 18, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge. This has been a really great series so far; grab a colleague and come join the always dynamic conversation!   

Tartela Alkayyali will defend her MSc-SDE thesis entitled, "Towards the Cultivation of 鈥楿ncultivable鈥 Microbes: the Design and Development of a Microbial Domestication Pod Containing Microencapsulated Marine Sediment Bacteria " on Monday, July 15, 1:30 PM in FSDE Room 202.

Wear lots of colour, and show your Pride. Student Affairs will be providing 糖心vlog官方入口 Pride T-Shirts to those walking in the parade! T-Shirts will be available for pick up in Student Affairs, Dalton Hall, 5th floor, after Monday, July 15 (one per person, first come first served). And if anyone would like to join in the festivities but is unable to walk the parade route, not a problem! Leading Edge Home Construction and Development  will begin brick repointing on the west side of Don and Marion McDougall Hall (original building) on Monday, July 15, 2019 it is expected to take approximately 4 weeks to complete the work (weather dependent).

The grinding work will cause some dust, therefore the contractor will be using a dust extraction system.

The windows in the area should be kept closed during the work to keep any dust outside of the building.

Ethics protocols that involve 鈥more than minimal risk鈥 must be reviewed by the full 糖心vlog官方入口 Research Ethics Board (REB).  The REB does not usually meet during July or August so protocols involving 鈥榤ore than minimal risk鈥 that are submitted in July and August will be held until September for review at the September 2019 meeting. Researchers should contact the Compliance Coordinator if an earlier review is required.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve 鈥榤ore than minimal risk鈥, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.
