The Co-op office is hosting a networking evening with the program coordinators and students in the program on Monday, September 8, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the Fox and Crow. Perspective and existing co-op students are all welcome to attend. Applications to join the co-op program run from August 29 to September 17. When Dr. Dan Fredholm first entered the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú (ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú) in 2009, he envisioned a future as a small animal veterinarian. Like any great Disney story, destiny had other plans. Today, he is a respected specialist, board-certified by the American College of Zoological Medicine, and clinical veterinarian with Disney’s Animals, Science, and Environment.

What brought you to ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú? Why did you choose to study here?
My brother suggested the idea of studying abroad, and eventually, I decided to follow in his footsteps! I’m from Yavatmal, a city in the state of Maharashtra, located in the north-central part of India. I already had some family living in PEI, so I was familiar with the place. As I started learning more about ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú, I found it really welcoming, especially through YouTube videos and student stories. From day one, it felt like a place where I could truly grow.
Teaching and Learning Centre coffee break: Communicating Expectations
As instructors, setting clear and consistent course expectations is an impactful way to support student learning and engagement. This TLC coffee break will offer actionable strategies for communicating expectations like developing inclusive syllabi and stimulating open discourse in the classroom. We will explore how calibrating expectations with learning outcomes, using inclusive language, and encouraging student feedback can strengthen the learning environment. Faculty will benefit from fewer misunderstandings and stronger classroom relationships when expectations are clear.
History at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú: Panthers welcome Canada’s best in university field hockey
For the first time in its history, ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú will be the centre of Canadian university field hockey this fall. From October 30 to November 2, the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Field Hockey program will welcome three visiting teams for the Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS Invitational, a national championship that will decide the country’s best.
For Panthers head coach Lacey MacLauchlan, the chance to bring an event of this scale to Prince Edward Island is about more than just competition.

The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú invites expressions of interest or recommendations of individuals, external to the University, who may be considered for appointment to the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Board of Governors. The Board of Governors is currently seeking nominations for one volunteer appointment to commence in Fall 2025 for a three-year term.
Candidates should possess knowledge and competencies that would be valuable to the Board of Governors, preferably including expertise in one of the following areas:

A new book of poetry titled The Geography of Home: Poems for a Lost Time, by Dr. Edward MacDonald, Professor Emeritus of history at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú, will be launched on September 7, 2025, at 2 pm, in the Faculty Lounge (Room 201), SDU Main Building, ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú.
Through the poems in the book, MacDonald traces rural Prince Edward Island where he grew up from the late 1950s through the early 1970s—a landscape on the cusp of far-reaching change.

Donor Spotlight: The Legacy of the Arlie Parks Scholarship in Memory of Dr. Kenneth McIntyre
Marjorie and Arlie Parks, lifelong friends of Dr. Kenneth McIntyre and Donald McLaren, made a generous lasting gift through their will to establish a scholarship in memory of Dr. McIntyre at the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú. The four friends shared deep ties to Montague, Prince Edward Island, where Dr. McIntyre’s father, Dr. Preston McIntyre, was a highly respected community physician.
