The deadline to apply for the 2014 Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp is Friday, March 14, 2014. Campers take part in an educational adventure like no other at the national award-winning Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp. One of only a few in North America, AVC Vet Camp provides an exciting and educational look into the world of veterinary medicine. Students enjoy a week filled with science, animals, and fun. Junior camps (grades 7-9) are scheduled for July 7-11 and 14-18; senior camps (grades 10-12) are scheduled for July 21-25 and July 28-August 1. Tuition is $390 (+14% HST) and covers educational materials, labs, field trips, lunches, a camp backpack and scrub top. Find out what being a veterinarian is really like! If you have an elderly furry friend, you won鈥檛 want to miss the Atlantic Veterinary College鈥檚 community workshop, 鈥淐are of the Geriatric Pet,鈥 on Wednesday, March 5, in Lecture Theatre A, from 7 to 8:30 pm. With advances in veterinary medicine, proper nutrition, and increased awareness of pet owners, pets are living longer lives. How do owners prepare for, and provide the best care during, their pet鈥檚 senior years? At what age is a pet considered senior or geriatric? Dr. Peter Foley, assistant professor of small animal internal medicine, will discuss common diseases of older pets, how to spot symptoms of potential illnesses or problems, and how to handle their special needs. He will also present information on end of life issues and euthanasia. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. An initiative by Student Affairs and supported by the Canadian Mental Health Association (PEI division), the week showcases a series of events designed to educate and encourage action among 糖心vlog官方入口 students, staff, and faculty while building a culture of care. Events this year include: 糖心vlog官方入口's first TEDxTalk; guest lecture by Frank Warren from PostSecret; visits from the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, and more! All events are free to attend. Dr. McFarland鈥檚 presentation is entitled 鈥淧otent Photosensitizes for Metal-Organic PDT: Lessons from Nature.鈥 The seminar will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre Room 212. All are welcome!

Dr. Brian Wagner, professor of chemistry at 糖心vlog官方入口, will lead a discussion entitled 鈥淭he myth of the chemical-free beer.鈥 The event begins at 7 pm, Tuesday, March 4 at The Pourhouse, above The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in Charlottetown. Barnes and Clow will be accompanied by pianist Frances McBurnie.
