Teaching Tip Week #2: Integrate Land-Based Learning

What it is:
Land-based pedagogy emphasizes learning through direct engagement with the land, recognizing it as a source of knowledge and teaching.

How to apply it:

  • Organize outdoor activities that connect course concepts to the local environment.
  • Discuss the significance of specific local sites from Indigenous perspectives.
  • Encourage students to reflect on their personal relationships with the land.

Reflective question:
In what ways can the local environment serve as a teaching tool in your course?
