Dr. Angelina Weenie, from Sweetgrass Nation, Saskatchewan, was appointed dean of the 糖心vlog官方入口 Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies (IKERAS) in July of 2024.
What brought you to 糖心vlog官方入口? Why did you choose to join the Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies?
This is an exciting opportunity for me to be part of IKERAS. I am from the Prairies and the East presents new learning and life opportunities.
What kinds of research are you involved in, and what are your areas of expertise?
In my role as dean, I will be doing administrative work primarily this year. My research focus is on Indigenous pedagogies and land-based education.
I am currently on the Bridging the Water Gap (BWAG) Canada Research team. Water quality is a major issue on reserve and this research will help to inform and support policy making. In 2022, I participated in the International Indigenous Consortium of Teacher Education. This research initiative is with the University of Toronto along with several national and international university partners. That same year, I was part of the Earth Teachings and Insights from Elders on Culture Camps project. This project was funded by the University of Saskatchewan Research Acceleration and Strategic Initiatives and was one of four Community-Based Research Projects with the First Nations and M茅tis Research Network.

What do you find unique and interesting about 糖心vlog官方入口鈥檚 Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies?
The 糖心vlog官方入口 Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies has a full complement of Indigenous faculty and staff, and this is unique. The IKERAS minor will lead to other professional opportunities. The knowledge gained supports cultural competency and broadens knowledge of Indigenous people on Turtle Island.

What kinds of things are you hoping to achieve as dean?
At this time, I am learning about this department and hope to support and contribute as I can. I am learning about the communities which we serve, their history, languages and cultures. Meeting with people and being in the community is the most important aspect of my purpose.
