Recently, a few members of the Faculty of Medicine team attended the International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM) in Vancouver, which is the premier Canadian meeting for medical schools and medical education with over 1,250 participants. It was fun being one of the new kids on the block, and attendees were very interested in and enthusiastic about what is happening at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú.

Paige Campbell, a Bachelor of Environmental Studies student at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú, is marking Earth Day, April 22, with a painting of species at risk on PEI.

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú is glad to share the news that Dr. Sobia Ali-Faisal has been appointed as the new Director of EDI and Human Rights for the University, effective May 21, 2024, and that Patti Wheatley has been appointed as the new Human Rights Counsel for ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú, effective June 3, 2024.

Dr. Angelina Weenie, from Sweetgrass Nation, Saskatchewan, has been appointed dean of the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies (IKERAS) for a five-year term effective July 1, 2024.

On Wednesday, April 10, six ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú student teams pitched their business concepts in front of a live audience for a share of $62,000 in prize money during the annual MacLauchlan Panther Pitch Competition. The competition for entrepreneurial undergraduate and graduate students is coordinated each year by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú’s Student Entrepreneurship Hub and is part of the Harry W. MacLauchlan Entrepreneurship Program.

| Athletics

The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Panthers Cheer Team ended their season on a high note, becoming national champions for the third consecutive year after competing at the Collegiate Median National Championship division of the CheerExpo National Cheerleading Championship 2024. The event took place from April 5 to 7 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú awarded research grants totalling $62,788 to 13 faculty members in 2024. Five received internal research grants (IRG), six Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Explore research grants (SERG), and two Lévesque human health internal research grants.

Ant-inspired robots, the experiences of temporary foreign workers on PEI, and modelling for energy efficiency cost savings for property owners were the focus of prize-winning 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) presentations by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú graduate students on April 11, 2024.
